LEAD created the John C. Halton III Award for Excellence in support of Engineering Education, in short the Halton Award, to honor one Cockrell School staff member each year.

John C. Halton III Award

About the Award

LEAD created the John C. Halton III Award for Excellence in support of Engineering Education to commemorate John Halton’s contributions to the Cockrell School and UT community over a career spanning more than four decades.

Honorees are recognized for embodying Halton’s values in a work ethic characterized by excellence, humility, diplomacy, grace and the spirit of giving first. The LEAD Awards Committee uses these as a basis for their selection criteria.

LEAD honors one, currently serving Cockrell School staff member each year with the Halton Award at a ceremony on campus in the Fall semester, along with a cash award.

Nomination Information

Any Cockrell School staff member may be nominated by UT students, alumni, fellow staff, or faculty. The nominee must not self-nominate.

Please use the form below to submit your, the nominator, information and send your nomination packet to haltonaward@leadutexas.org. Each nomination packet must include the following:

  • The nominee’s full name and campus contact information

  • A brief resume or CV documenting the individual’s professional and service activities, accomplishments, and contributions, with an emphasis on the Cockrell and UT community

  • A letter from the nominator addressing the following:

    • How are you connected to the individual nominee?

    • How has the individual empowered you and others to excel?

    • How does the nominee exercise the values of humility, diplomacy and grace in their day to day activities?

    • Share specific examples of how this individual has given first, without expectation of reward

  • As the nominator, you may collect letters of support from others, or other pieces of information that may further shed light on the criteria and considerations for the award.

For the academic year 2019 – 2020 (inaugural year of the award), nominations should be received no later than September 30, 2019. If you have any questions related to the award or process please reach out to haltonaward@leadutexas.org.
